Dear friend, Three of us plan to visit Japan in August for about three weeks (2 adults and a child). Our trip is as follows: Arrive by flight at Narita. Next day flight to Sapporo. Hire a car at Sapporo for Hokkaido trip. On 7th day flight back to Narita. Take Narita express to Tokyo and train towards Kawaguchi ko. Stay at kawaguchiko area for 3 nights. Take train to Osaka. 3 nights in Osaka. Take train to Hiroshima. Stay 2 nights. Take overnight train from Hiroshima to Tokyo. 2 nights in Tokyo. Fly out from Narita. We are thinking of a 2 week pass. What’s your suggestion? Also, what’s the best way to take the overnight train from Hiroshima to Tokyo? Is it covered by JR pass? Thanks in advance. Nix

Hi there,

There is no overnight train from Hiroshima to Tokyo, so the best thing would be to travel by Shinkansen during the day. With that in mind, a JR Pass will likely be very cost-effective, if you can include Tokyo - Hiroshima - Tokyo within 7-days.

2.) As mentioned, there is no overnight train from Hiroshima. Perhaps you mean the Sunrise express, but this only departs from Okayama. You can get basic seats for free on it with the pass.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
With our stated itinerary, will a 2 week pass make sense?
We want it coincide with our return to Narita from Sapporo. That leaves us with 2 weeks with the above stated itinerary….

What’s the best way to utilise the JR pass for travel from Kawaguchiko (Fuji) area to Osaka ?
