We want to buy a 7 day JR rail pass but don't want to activate it until our last week in Japan. Is that possible?

Hi there,

Yes, that definitely works! Alternatively, you could go to exchange the pass earlier and have the activation date set for whenever you want it set in the future, so that you can begin making seat reservations in advance for the week that your JR Pass will be valid.
