Hello

Does the hokkaido pass have the same benefits as the japan rail pass? I did see that one part of the shinkansen is not included but we will not travel there anyway.
What do you mean with The South Hokkaido Railway, Sapporo Subway is not included? Is it included in the japan rail pass? We will probably travel from chitose airport to Sapporo. Is that included in the Hokkaido pass?
At this point I am considering either takig the all kyushu pass and then the japan rail pass or first take the japan rail pass and then go for the hokkaido pass.
We want to take the green car pass but i also wonder if its needed in Hokkaido. Do the trains have a green car in that part? We will go from asahikawa to abashiro to kushiro to chitose.

Hi there,

The Hokkaido Pass is just like the JR Pass, except only valid in the Hokkaido region. The Sapporo Subway etc. is not covered by the JR Pass as it is privately operated - I would recommend purchasing a prepaid travel card such as a SUICA or a PASMO if you want to access the Sapporo Subway.

Travel between the airport and Sapporo is included in the Hokkaido Pass. Hokkaido trains do have a green car but there is no green class version of the Hokkaido pass - if you plan on travelling with the green car I'd suggest either purchasing a JR Pass with a longer valid time period or purchasing your tickets individually.
