Hi there,
A JR Pass may be a cost-effective option for you as you'll be predominantly riding the shinkansen - however, please note that the JR Pass won't cover all of your travel on your way to Hakone, only until Odawara, and so if you're planning on staying for around 1-3 days I would recommend a Hakone FreePass in tandem with a JR Pass as it will cover the round trip back to Odawara as well as transport around Hakone.
