jr pass cost

Visiting Japan March-April and September - October are the best times of year to visit Japan weather wise.

Looking at your plan, I do think that the JR Pass is a great choice! It covers all places including the Shinkansen all the way down to Fukuoka. It is also good for local travel to much places such as in Tokyo and Osaka.

There's a great Sumo championship when you are in Fukuoka, so be sure to check it out!

thanks for the reply. I have a couple of other questions too if thats ok :-)

1. To visit shrines and temples etc is there a cost to see them? Also is it possible to visit a few in one day, for example when we are in osaka we will be able to cover a few sites at once, castle and temples?

2.does the jr pass cover shinkansen nozomi?

3.open to suggestions of other small towns etc to visit so if you have any info im open to suggestions :-D. Want to cram as much in as possible.

1. Is the floating torri gate worth a visit?

Hi Jason,

Happy to answer them!

1.) Prices for temples, castles and other attractions can range quite a bit. Many are free but others charge between 300-1,500+ yen entrance. Most temples can be seen in an hour or less so it is certainly possible to visit multiple sights in a day.

2.) The Nozomi train is not included but you can use the Hikari/Kodama instead. These are pretty much the same but make a couple more stops on the way.

3.) Yes visiting Miyajima (floating tore gate) is something every trip should include! The ferry to Miyajima is even covered by the JR Pass. When you are in Fukuoka be sure to bring a visit to Dazaifu is very interesting old temple village. I'd also include a day trip to Nikko from Tokyo, this is also something not to be missed.
