Hi. I will be traveling on this itinerary from Dec 28-Jan 8
I’m confused which pass I should buy. 7 day or 14 day pass ? 3 star route ticket for Matsumoto to Kanazawa?
Please let me know what you think of my plan and which pass best fits

Dec 28 Tokyo
Dec 29 Tokyo
Dec 30 Tokyo
Dec 31 Tokyo - day trip to Hakone
Jan 1 Nagano - snow monkeys
Jan 2 Matsumoto & Takayama
Jan 3 Shirakawa-go
Jan 4 Gokayama & Kanazawa
Jan 5 Kyoto
Jan 6 Kyoto
Jan 7 Kyoto to Tokyo
Jan 8 Kyoto

Hi there,

I assume you will be in Tokyo on Jan 8th? In that case I recommend using a 7-day Japan Rail Pass for Jan 1st to Jan 7th. The trips to Nagano, Takayama, Kyoto and Tokyo are the ones that cost the most by far and where you can make the best savings using the JR Pass.
