First time in Japan ever !

Hello :)

This is my first time going to Japan and I am very confused as to how I should use/buy the JRP.

My partner and I plan on roaming the streets and shops of Tokyo for 3 weeks.

Obviously if i want to go to Harajuku for example i would need to take the train, When I arrive at Narita airport and want

to get into Tokyo would I need to buy a ticket? Or is that already included in my air fare? Would I also need a return ticket

for when I leave Tokyo to go to the airport?

Does that mean I need to purchase a 3 week JRP?

Sorry for all the questions, I hope you can help me figure this out.

Hello again,

I just read through some of the other questions... So it is possible i don't need a JRP? I can just purchase normal train tickets there from the station each time i wanted to travel?

Hi there,

Once you arrive at Narita Airport you'll have to buy a train ticket from Narita Airport into Tokyo. For this you could consider the 1500 yen Narita Express ticket.

Will you be staying the 3 weeks in Tokyo or do you plan to explore other parts of Japan as well. Think about Kyoto, Osaka or perhaps Hiroshima. If so then I would recommend a JR Pass, you could for instance buy a 7 day JR Pass and visit Kyoto and Hiroshima with it. If you stay locally in Tokyo then it would be better to just buy normal tickets as you travel.

Thank you so much for your reply!

I won't be going anywhere outside Tokyo this time round. But thank you so much for clearing that up for me. I thought it wqs compulsory to buy a JRP, and that I wouldn't be able to purchase "normal" tickets from the train station.
