Hello. My partner and I are staying for 9 nights. I am wondering if it would be more beneficial/cheaper to get a 7day pass each and then just buy individial tickets for the remaining day - as we may only use the train to and from Tokyo Airport on the first and last days - or should we just get the 14day pass and waste a couple of days? Unsure if you can buy single day passes or just single ride passes. Thank you in advance. Jemma

Hi there,

It will all depend on where you go. If you only stay around Tokyo then travel won't cost a lot but say you make a visit to Kyoto and back to Tokyo. Then a 7 day JR Pass is already worth considering.

Let me know what cities you wish to visit and I can give you better recommendations.

Thank you so much! We will get the 7 day pass and just pay for individual rides on the other days. By the end I think we will be happy to hang around Tokyo City. We will be heading to Osaka for a day - I think getting the pass is worth getting for that trip. Thank you again

Hi Jemma,

It's definitely worth it if you go to Osaka. The cost of a return ticket Tokyo - Osaka using the bullet trains already is similar to the cost of a 7 day JR Pass. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for the same price.
