Hello,

I've been using Hyperdia to plot our itinierary, but I haven't been able to figure out which Tokyo station the Shinkansen travels from? Is it Shinjuku or Tokyo Station?

We'll be travelling on the:
- Shinkansen Asama - Shinkansen Hikari - Shinkansen Kodama

Thank you.

Hi there,

The 2 shinkansen terminals in Tokyo are at "Tokyo" and "Shinagawa" stations. There is no shinkansen terminal at Shinjuku station.

Tokyo station is the main shinkansen terminal, and connects the Tōkaidō (Osaka), Tōhoku (Shin-Aomori), Jōetsu(Niigata) and Nagano Shinkansen bullet train lines. The Hikari and Kodama bullet trains run on the Tōkaidō line from here. The Asama bullet train runs on the Nagano shinkansen line and also departs from here.

Shinagawa station connects to the Tōkaidō shinkansen, and is a stop before Tokyo station.

Hope this helps!

It's very easy to plot routes - Hyperdia will easily tell you the best way - if you out in Shinjuku it won't show any bullet train departure, but direct you where you'd need to go.

You could spend a lot of time in Tokyo and still not see everything.
In Tokyo a few of the best places to see are the Tsukiji Fish Market, plus the site that every last tourist goes to see, the Sensoji Temple. If you are in Tokyo on a Sunday afternoon, be sure to go visit Harajuku to see the youth with their wild fashions. Meiji Shrine and Yoyogi Park are next to it and well worth seeing also. And be sure not to miss the Shibuya Hachiko intersection especially on a weekend when it looks like half the city is crossing the street at once.
