Using 7 days JR pass

Here's a little breakdown of ticket prices without the pass.

Osaka - Hiroshima ¥ 10,150
Hiroshima - Tokyo ¥ 18,250
Tokyo - Yokohama ¥ 450
Yokohama - Tokyo ¥ 450
Tokyo - Kyoto ¥ 13,420

For a total of ¥ 42,720 or ¥ 14,420 in savings! as the 7 day JR Pass is ¥ 28,300. This is even excluding travel to Fuji (I excluded it since I did not know exactly where around Fuji you'd visit) and local travel in Tokyo adding even more. The JR Pass really is a golden ticket!

We were thinking of going for a day trip from Tokyo to Mt Fuji. Where will you recommend and how to use JR pass to cover part of the trip. We have an elderly person in our group, so no strenuous long walks and hiking, 30 mins walking is fine.

I think a safe option would be to visit the first of the Fuji Five Lakes, Lake Kawaguchiko it's one of the most popular destinations around Fuji and there's enough to do without having to walk for miles. The best way to access Kawaguchiko via rail is to use the JR to travel to Otsuki station. From where you can use the Fujikyu line for travel to Kawaguchiko. The Fujikyu line is unfortunately not part of the JR Network and does require a separate fee of 1,110yen.
