We will be in Japan for 19 days. beginning in Tokyo for 4 nights. We plan on traveling to Hakone, Takayama, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka and then back to Tokyo. We would use the JR Pass from April 6 - April 18; 13 days so it seems the 14 day pass would work for us. But does the pass cover the trains from these locations to each other? In our itinerary these are the trains that seem to meet our needs best. Are they part of the JR Pass?
Chiyoda Line, Odakyu Line, Romancecar, Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen, Hida 83 Limited Express Takayama, Hokuriku Shinkansen, Thunderbird, Karasuma Line-Local Kokusaikaikan, Tokaido Shinkansen, Tokaido-Sanyo Line, Keikyū Main LineLimited , Keikyū Airport Line.
Thanks for your clairfication. Diane

Hi there,
Your most expensive train journeys would be covered by the JR Pass, but the Tokyo/Osaka Metro lines, RomanceCar, and the Keikyu lines will not be covered as they are privately operated. It is still worth considering a JR Pass as these costs will be minimal compared to the Shinkansen prices, and many routes can also be done via other trains covered by the JR Pass, e.g. Odawara Station can be accessed via Shinkansen or to get from Tokyo to Haneda the Tokyo Monorail can be used.
Hope this helps!
Alexis
