Hi there,

I must say that your itinerary looks quite busy to me, with travel somewhere nearly every day. This will of course get you really good value out of the JR Pass but you should also ask yourself if you want to be traveling every day. Sometimes spending a bit more time here or there can be nice too. I did trips like this before but would get tired of checking in and out every day.

That out of the way, the route does look manageable and includes many high lights of Japan.

For travel in Tokyo, a Tokyo day pass could be great for the metro but it depends where you go in Tokyo. A good rule of thumb is that you should use the metro at least 4 times a day for it to be cost effective.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi there,

You already include many of the bigger cities, it could be nice to add some smaller towns as well. Onomichi comes to mind, you could also visit the town of Gero Onsen near Takayama, to enjoy an onsen visit and travel to Takayama by train (only 20-40minutes) from there.

If you want to stay a bit longer in some place, then I recommend Kyoto. Overall it has a lot to offer and is more relaxed than Osaka.

Hope this helps!
Daniel
