Your help, please. Thanks

Hi Hoa,

You could do so from Kokura but I think Kumamoto would be a much better base to use for these day trips. The routes will be shorter and I think Kumamoto is also a nicer city to stay at. You could also make a day trip from there to Nagasaki and Sasebo.

I do think that 2 days would be a bit short to do all of the places you mention. Personally, I would have taken 5 but I think 3-4 would already be better.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Daniel-san,

I already booked 3 days in Unzen city( Nagasaki, around Unzen). I am planning to take the ferry to Kumamoto , already too booked Kagoshima 2 days ( Sakurajima,Ibusuki,Suizokukan)

Probleme is after Kagoshima, I am planning to go to Aso, Beppu and Hyperdia showed me all routes passing by Kokura( Kagoshima-Kokura-Beppu, Kagoshima-Kokura-Oita-Aso) ( Kumamoto-Kokura-Oita-Aso, Kumamoto-Hakata-Beppu-Oita-Aso).That is why I plan staying in Kokura. I like more to go to Aso than Beppu,it seems commercial?

Thank you very much. Looking forward for your helpful suggestions.

Best Regards,

Hoa

PS : still can change accommodation

Hi again,

I'm not sure why Hyperdia is showing those routes. You can also take the train via the east coast of Kyushu, passing Miyazaki. This is a very scenic route and could be nice.

Perhaps a good option is to look at our railway map:
https://www.jrpass.com/map

There you can see all lines in Kyushu and see how you can travel, including the in land train lines.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Daniel-san,

I am still struggling with my itinerary!

Following your suggestion, departing from Kagoshima via the east coast of Kyushu, stopping at Nobeoka,, taking the bus going to see Takachiho gorge. What is the best and cheaper option, overnight at Takachiho or go back to Nobeoka. I wanted so much to go to Aso. Please help me how. I am thinking to skip Beppu( already plan Ibusuki)).

Many thanks again.

Best regards,

Hoa

Hi Hoa,

I guess the cheapest option would depend on how much you'd spend on accommodation. I would prefer staying at Takachiho but it would likely be more expensive than say a business hotel in Nobeoka. You can also take the train from Nobeoka to Aso station via Oita.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Daniel-san,

I still do not understand why Hyperdia showed me a route from Kumamoto to Aso Kumamoto that passes by many stations Kokura, Oita....?

You directed me to JapanRail Map. I see Hohi Line, Sanyo Shinkansen. Can I use my JRPass for these Lines?

Thanks for your help.

Hoa
