Hi asking again, as not answered on my previous thread. We don't arrive in Japan until Golden Week (had no flexibility with dates) so can't activate our JR pass until basically a day or two before we need it. Are there still likely to be availability in Green class with luggage only 2 days in advance with Golden Week?

Hi there,
Sorry that you didn't get a response. If you're travelling in Green Class, I don't believe that you should have a problem finding a seat especially if you have a couple days in advance to reserve. If you make your reservations as soon as you possibly can you should be fine - bear in mind a lot of people do still make last-minute reservations during Golden Week so for you it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks Alexis - we obviously don't want to make the huge commitment financially to Green Pass if we couldn't get seats with 1 or 2 days in advance during Golden Week.
