Hi there,
Yes that is possible, although I would recommend doing so in Japan. This because the refund fee is lower.

Hi there,
If you want to start the refund process after you return from Japan. Contact us at [email protected] with the order number and we will start the refund process.
In Japan, go to any of the exchange station and ask for a refund instead of activating the JR Pass.
