Does one have to use the 7 day pass on consecutive days or can one use it for a few days and then later a few more?

you have to use it in 7 consecutive days.

Hi there,
JR Passes are valid for consecutive days. However you don't have to use it every day to make good use of it. Simply making a return Tokyo - Kyoto in two days will already pay for the pass.
