I know you have to purchase the Japan Rail Pass (all Japan) from outside Japan, but I can I purchase a regional pass once I get there and know my itinerary for sure? Or do I need to buy the regional ones before I leave as well?

We recommend ordering your regional pass in advance, but it is also possible to purchase it within Japan.
