JR Pass Versus Regional

Hi there,

It may sound strange, though there is not really a good pass here that will help you make savings. This is due to the fact that you stay locally for days in a row and passes take the assumption that you will be travelling. In addition, the only long distance travel is Tokyo to Kyoto. Maybe if you plan to do different day trips it could be worth it, but I'd have to know when/where to be able to tell you.

Thanks, We also have long distance trip from Tokyo - Nagano (myokokogen) return. We will do also do day trips as follows:
Tokyo - Chiba, Mount Fuji - also lots of inner city trips
Kyoto - Nara

What do you think? Should I get the 21 day pass for the first half of the trip?

I'm not yet convinced. Yes, Myokogen is sort of long distance, but there are lower cost express bus options available (see http://myokokogen.net/getting-to-myoko-kogen/)

For Chiba and Mt. Fuji, it depends on the station you want to go to. I can let you know the full details if you know where you'd want to go. Alternatively, you can also use our JR Fare calculator.

Kyoto to Nara is ¥ 720 one way (around 5 bucks),not really a big amount.
