One way Tokyo-Osaka and Kansai Area

Hi Daniel-san! I am planning to travel next week with the following itinerary;

Arriving Haneda Airport - Tokyo
Tokyo - Osaka one way
Osaka - Kyoto return daytrip
Osaka - Nara return daytrip
Osaka - Kansai Airport departure

According to the fare calculator, it is cheaper to get a One Way ticket from Tokyo to Osaka, and a Regional Pass in Kansai Area than getting a 7-day JR pass.

If this is so;
1. Is it possible to buy a one-way ticket online?
2. Should I get the Kansai Regional Pass now to get it delivered in time, and only activate it once I reach Osaka from Tokyo?

Thanks! Appreciate your response.

Hi there,

1.) Yes, there are some services that allow is but we don't sell them directly here at JRPass.com

2.) Yes, the Kansai Area Pass can only be activated within the Kansai Area, so it makes sense to wait until Osaka.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel-San! That is very helpful indeed. However, there has been an update to my itinerary and will be doing one way trips below;

17th April Tokyo-Osaka
19th April Osaka-Kyoto
20th April Kyoto-Nara, Nara-Osaka
21st April Osaka-Kansai

Is it worth getting a travel pass or will it be cheaper to get one way tickets between these destinations? And are one way tickets easily available at the stations with no bookings?

Also, what is the best way to get around in Osaka, Kyoto and Nara? I learnt there are cards you can top up, or is it easier to get a day travel pass? Example, I’m planning to go to Universal studios in Osaka, and do the sights around there for 2 days. Similarly in Kyoto I plan to go to the Bamboo grove and Inari Fushima Shrine which is far apart.
I saw that Nara park and sights are all within walking distance so I won’t need one for that.

Appreciate your help Daniel-San!
