14 day pass to cover Tokyo to Narai to Kanazawa to Shizuoka to Nagoya to Yokohama to Tokyo? Also, presumably we don't have to use it every day for it to stay valid?

Hi there,
You don't have to use the JR Pass for it to remain valid but it does count down every day, even if you would not use it.
You can use the JR Pass Fare Calculator to find an approximate ticket cost of a single route or even your full itinerary and compare it with the cost of a JR Pass.
