Hi there,

The JR Pass is most useful for national rail travel, e.g. to get from different cities or locations using JR Operated rail lines. Since most metro lines and buses in Tokyo are privately owned, these will not be covered by JR Pass and you will need to purchase something like a Suica card.

For the rest of your trip, a JR Pass would be useful for getting around Japan by train, including use of the shinkansen bullet train network.
