Are there smoking areas on Japanese trains and in Japanese stations? Are the areas on the platform? Is there anything else to keep in mind when wanting to go for a smoke in Japan?

Hi there,
There is a smoking room on all shinkansen bullets, normally situated about half way down the train. In addition, there are smoking areas at all stations, including on platform if outside. There are in general not smoking areas on normal Ltd. Express trains.
