We are a group travelling to the marathon in Tokyo. We plan to stay 5 nights in Tokyo then two nights in Nagano, 3 nights in Kyoto and then travel back to Tokyo to return home. Would our best bet be to use JR Pass or would it be better to buy individual tickets for the train. We are there 11 nights in total but presumably would just use the 7day pass and buy tickets for the trip in from the airport.

I would recommend purchasing your tickets individually, as your trip is fairly long but you aren't making many train journeys. If you plan to add day trips or change your itinerary, you can check out our JR Fare Calculator.
