student staying in Japan for 65 days

Hi there,

I would recommend taking the Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo station to Sendai.
Here is the full route from Narita Airport - Sendai.

There is a new Shinkansen on this track called the Super Komachi, it is the newest Shinkansen and was only put into service 3 weeks ago. It makes for a great ride so get a ticket for you if you can.

An alternative may be a night bus that is somewhat lower in price (around 7,500Yen).

I am arriving at Tokyo on May 8th 9 am and have to reach Tohoku university .Kindly advice and should i buy a rail pass .I am in the university for 63 days.

Hi Nerendra,

I think the best thing is just to buy train tickets if you plan on only traveling to Sendai, however if you would like to make some side trips to places like, Tokyo, Hachinohe or maybe even Kyoto, than the JR Pass quickly becomes a great option.

If you do buy the pass, be sure that you enter Japan under the right 90-days Tourist Visa, a student or any other kind of visa won't allow you to use the pass.
