Hi! My girlfriend and I are visiting Japan for 11 days next week. Will the Jr pass cover our needs? Do we need a 7 day (with a Narita express ticket to get to Tokyo) or a 14 day JR pass?
10/19-arrive in Narita. Staying in Tokyo
10/21- travel Tokyo to Kamikochi
10/23- travel Kamikochi to Takiyama
10/24- travel Takiyama to Kanazawa
10/25- travel Kanazawa to Kyoto
10/28- travel Kyoto back to Tokyo
10/31- travel Tokyo to Narita

Hi there,
The JR Pass covers all of this, other than the bus to and from Kamikochi. You can use the JR Pass to travel to Matsumoto and from there use the Nagaden bus to and from Kamikochi (around 4,500yen for a return).
Also note that travel to Kamikochi takes quite long as it is a remote mountain valley. Coming from Tokyo and traveling on to Takayama is likely too much for one day. I would suggest basing yourself in Matsumoto for one night before traveling on the Takayama.
