JR pass questions

Hi there,
Below is our plan:

Arrive Haneda airport at 7:50pm
Stay in Tokyo for 3 nights (mostly visiting temples and tourist places in Tokyo)
Go to Kyoto from Tokyo by bullet train
Stay in Kyoto for 3 nights (mostly visiting temples, Nara and Hiroshima)
Leave Kyoto for Yokohama cruise port

I read online that the JR pass will not work in Kyoto for local trains and buses. It looks like I can only use the JR 7 day pass while I am in Tokyo and the bullet trains to Kyoto, Nara and Hiroshima.

My question is should I buy the JR 7 day pass or just buy single tickets to anywhere I want to go in term of money saving.

Thank you very much for your time.

Hello there,

The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo/Yokohama <-> Kyoto/Osaka, using the Shinkansen. From there, any additional travel you cover basically is what you save and I would certainly recommend using a JR Pass with travel planned in, to Hiroshima, this alone would cost an additional 20,000yen without the JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thank you very much Daniel for the information. We will get the passes 2 months before our trip in April.
