JR Kanto Pass

I would like to ask about the JR Kanto pass here.

I note that JR Kanto pass can only be purchased from some stations in Kanto.

I will arrive Nagoya and want to activate my JR Kanto pass for use starting from Karuizawa to Tokyo. Thus, you can see that I will not be able to buy the JR Kanto pass from where I will be till I start to use.

Therefore, I would like to ask:

1) can someone (who will travel in advance to Tokyo) buy the JR Kanto pass on my behalf using photocopy of my passport with his credit card for me?
2) Or, original passport need to be presented for JR Kanto pass purchase?
