7 or 14 day JR pass?

A 7 day pass costs ¥28,300 and a 14 day pass costs ¥45,100. You'll need to spend more than this on JR tickets for a Japan Rail Pass to be cost effective. Lets take a look at your costs:

1. Tokyo > Osaka: ¥13,950 (194mins, 556km)
2. Osaka > Kyoto: ¥540 (29mins, 42km)
3. Kyoto > Osaka: ¥540 (28mins, 42km)
4. Osaka > Nara: ¥780 (59mins, 48km)
5. Nara > Osaka: ¥780 (55mins, 48km)
6. Osaka > Hiroshima: ¥10,150 (104mins, 345km)
7. Hiroshima > Tokyo: ¥18,250 (292mins, 894km)

JR ticket cost: ¥44,990 for 7 legs

• 7 day Japan Rail Pass (¥28,300) saving: ¥16,690

As you can see, it will only be cost effective for you to use a 7 day pass (where you'll make great savings). I recommend you try and fit your non-Tokyo travel within this 7 day pass and then purchase either a [Narita Express + SUICA card] or Keisei Express + Unlimited Metro Pass deal to get you to and from the airport and discounted travel within Tokyo itself.

Would you know the costs of the Narita Express+SUICA card or Keisi Express + Unlimited metro pass? I would guess you purchase at strain stations?

For reference, the return costs are:

• Narita Express + SUICA: ¥5500
• Keisei + 2 day Metro: ¥4880

These deals are not able to purchase once you are inside Tokyo so make sure you purchase these at the JR or Keisei desks at Narita Airport station on arrival.
