questions & answers: using the japan rail pass

moving my trip

Moving My Trip

I planned on going to Japan next week for 7 days and purchased a rail pass. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, I won't be able to go.

I plan on going in 2013, but I need to know what the change policy is for my pass. It was purchased last month. Does anyone have experience with moving their travel back? What do I need to do?

Hi there!

The JR Pass must be used within 3 months of the activation date and are not re-issuable. This means that for your 2013 trip you will need to return your rail pass for a refund and then repurchase a pass again nearer your time of travel. You have 1 year from the date of purchase to request a refund so you have plenty of time for this. If you have purchased your rail pass from please contact who will be happy to walk you through the procedure. You can read more about the returns procedure here.

Hope this helps!
