Where do I buy tickets to Amanohashidate for the part my JR pass doesn't cover?

Hi i'm planning to go to Amanohashidate from Kyoto station using the Limited Express Hashidate train and I've heard that the trip wont be fully covered by the JR Pass alone.

According to what I've read i will need to buy an additional ticket to cover the journey from Fukuchiyama to Amanohashidate Station; however, I can't find out where and how I would buy this ticket and how much it will cost.

Furthermore, I have the understanding that the last 2 carriages on the Limited Express Hashidate train are the ones that will break off and go towards Amanohashidate. So provided that I stay on these last 2 carriages throughout the whole journey I will never have to actually leave the train. This is why i'm confused as to when and where I would actually purchase this ticket to cover the fare from Fukuchiyama.

So if anyone could guide me through this issue I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi there,

You can pay the difference on board, I can't find the exact fare but from memory is was somewhere around 1.500yen/one way. The conductor will come by and ask you for the tickets, just pay the difference then, there is no penalty fare or anything. Alternatively you buy a ticket for it before at the Kyoto station ticket window or even when you arrive at the ticket gate at Amanohashi-date. If I recall correctly the first part of the train goes to Kinosaki and the last part to Amanohashidate but be sure to check the signs at the platform before boarding :)
