Hello

We are a couple and planning to spend our honeymoon in Japan this August. :-)

At the moment our travel plan is the following:

4 Nights - Tokyo
1 Night - Mt. Fuji Region or Hakone
1 Night - Takayama
1 Night - Kanazawa
4 Nights - Kyoto
2 Nights - Hiroshima or Miyajima Island
1 Night - Koyosan
2 Nights - Osaka

Would you recommend the Japan Rail Pass for our travel?
Would the travel from Hiroshima to Koyosan would be included?

Would you recommend any other place for an unforgettable honeymonn? :-)

Thanks so much for your help.

Best regards

Hi there,

Going to Japan as your honeymoon is absolutely fantastic!

A 7 day JR Pass would be a good option for going to Takayama, Kanazawa, Kyoto Hiroshima and to Koya. However this is currently a longer period than 7 days. Would you be able to switch Kyoto and Hiroshima/Miyajima around? Because this way you could get much better use out of the JR Pass.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Thanks for your help, Daniel.

Then you would recommend the following plan?
4 Nights - Tokyo
1 Night - Mt. Fuji Region or Hakone
1 Night - Takayama
1 Night - Kanazawa
2 Nights - Hiroshima or Miyajima Island
4 Nights - Kyoto
1 Night - Koyosan
2 Nights - Osaka

But if we would only take the 7 days pass starting from Takayama - the travel to Koyosan would not be included in the JR pass anymore?

What would be the ride time difference for Hiroshima - Koyosan / Kyoto - Koyosan?

Thank you so much,
Daniela

Hi again!

For this a 7 day JR Pass would be great. Start using it from the day that you travel to Takayama, the trips to Kanazawa and especially Hiroshima cost a lot without this pass, so this way you get the best use out of it.

Travel to Koya-san is always via Osaka. Going from Kyoto to Osaka is about 28 minutes while from Hiroshima it is about 100-120minutes. From Osaka, take a local train to Shin-Imamiya station, from there you can take the Nankai express to Koya. From Shin-Imamiya, it is about 90-120 minutes to Koya-san. Note that the Nankai Express is not included in the JR Pass in any event, so it is best to do it once the pass expired.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
