Advice on JRPass for upcoming adventure

Hello! We are traveling in Japan, arriving 4/16 - 5/1 (Narita airport). Here is our itinerary:
4/16-4/19 Tokyo
4/19-4/21 Hakone
4/21-4/25 Kyoto (day trip Nara)
4/25-4/26TBD (Koya-san?)
4/26-4/28 Osaka
4/28-4/29 Kinosaki
4/29-4/30 Kanazawa
4/30-5/1Tokyo

I assume the JR Pass will cover these destinations - but we will likely be over by at least one day (arrive 8AM on 4/16; depart NRT 1PM on 5/1); should we activate the pass when traveling in from the airport and then just buy fare to travel back to the airport on 5/1 -- or will we be unable to travel on 4/30 as well? Advice would be helpful.

Thanks!

Hi there,

Yes, I would just buy tickets for one way Tokyo Airport, then use your JR Pass for the other days.

All the cities can all be reached using the JR Pass. For Koya-san, there is a small bit of travel not covered. For details see:

Kind regards,
Daniel
