Hi! I'm planning to go to Japan from April 2-11. Based on my rough itinerary, it is worth it to purchase the JR Pass? I read that in Kyoto, it's best to purchase a day pass since there isn't a lot of JR trains to travel to the tourist attractions. Also I see that my schedule in Japan is more than the 7 days, so not too sure when I should activate the JR Pass? This itinerary is still in the works. If you see a better way for me to approach the cities, please let me know. I was thinking of activating the JR Pass on day 2 heading to Osaka to Tokyo.
April:
Day 1 (2nd): Arriving in Tokyo at 7pm (staying the night)
Day 2 (3rd): Going from Tokyo to Osaka - whole day in Osaka (leaving Tokyo early in the morning)
Day 3 (4th): From Osaka to Kyoto & back to Osaka (day trip in Kyoto)
Day 4 (5th): Exploring Osaka
Day 5 (6th): Going from Osaka to Tokyo (leaving Osaka early in the morning)
Day 6 (7th) - Day 9 (10th): Exploring in Tokyo
Day 10 (11th): Leaving Tokyo (flight at 9am)
