Planning my first trip to Japan end of Dec.

Rough plan of my itineary is

Day 1 Osaka (tuoch down 9.30pm)
Day 2 Osaka
Day 3 Osaka
Day4 Osaka
Day 5 Takayama or Kanazawa
Day 6 Shirakawago
Day 7 Takayama or Kanazawa
Day 8 Kyoto
Day 9 Kyoto
Day 10 Kyoto

Which pass should I get in this case? Can I use the 7 days JR pass and when should I activate for best coverage? Or should I be getting the Takayama-Hokuriku Area pass? understand this is a 5 days pass and I am not sure how to use it for best coverage.
Should I be going to Takayama or Kanazawa first coming from Osaka?

Hi there,

Since most of your travel is in the Hokuriku area, I think it would most sense to look at a Takayama-Hokuriku Area pass.

Using a Hokuriku pass you can only travel via Kanazawa to Shirakawa-go to Tayama, you would simply travel the same way back as well..

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for your reply. In that case does it means we should make our way from Osaka to Kanazawa -> Shirakawago --> Takayama -> Kanazawa -> Kyoto with this Hokuriku pass?

Is it better if I switch the last few days of my trip to the front to make better use of the pass? That means I go straight to Kyoto on first day and stay 2 to 3 nights then make our way to Kanazawa/Shirakwago/Takayama (one night each) and finally to Osaka?

Hi again,

Yes, that is correct,

At the same time it does not really matter, since this amount of travel remains the same.

Hi Daniel,

Sorry. Does your yes means my traveling route from around Kanazawa/Shirakawago/Takayama is correct?
And the amount of travel refers to? Sorry for my bad understanding.
