Hello, we are going to Japan in July and need some advice. This is our itinerary:
Day 1-Day 4: Tokyo
Day 4: Travel to Kumamoto, stay for two nights
Day 5: Mount Aso
Day 6: Kumamoto-Hiroshima-Kyoto
Day 6-11: Kyoto with day trip to Osaka
Day 11: Kyoto to Kanazawa, stay 2 nights
Day 13: Kanazawa-Takayama, stay two nights
Day 15: Takayama-Tokyo
Day 15-19: Tokyo

So we thought we would get a 14-Day-Pass from Day 4 until Day 17-what do you think? We are planning to make day trips also.
Is it recommendable to travel to Kumamoto/Mount Aso at the moment?
Thanks for your help-we appreciate it a lot!
Best wishes from Austria,
Miriam

Hi Miriam,

Day 4-17 looks great for using the JR Pass. You are traveling all over main land and the JR Pass will work very well for this.

Do note that the crater of mount Aso is still closed due to toxic gasses, its still a nice area to visit and good for hiking but you won't be able to get close to the crater itself. A great alternative is to take the Shinkansen to Kagoshima and view Sakurajima.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
