Hi there,

What area around Mount Fuji do you wish to visit?

I think the most popular area is Fuji Five Lakes. The most economic way to travel here with the JR Pass is to take the train from Tokyo to Otsuki and transfer here to the Fujikyu line, this last part is 1,100Yen / one way.

The most economic way without the JR Pass is to take a bus from Tokyo or Shinjuku station and will cost around 1,700 yen / one way or 3,400 for a return.

I hope this helps!
Daniel
