Hello,

I am travelling with 3 kids to Tokyo in December and would like to take the Shinkansen to Osaka.
Can you help me determine what tickets I should purchase? e.g. purchase a JR pass or purchase tickets separately

Day 1: Arrive Haneda at 5pm and travel to hotel somewhere in Tokyo
Day 2: Would like to visit local sites
Day 3. Visit Disney by the Sea
Day 4. Travel to Osaka by Shinkansen (this is one way - will not be returning to Tokyo).

Thank you.

Hello,
If you are only traveling one way, a rail pass would unfortunately not save you any money. For your plans, buying regular fare tickets is the best solution. You'd need to travel round trip back to Tokyo, or extend your itinerary much further to make a pass pay off.
You did not list the ages of your kids but if they are ages 6-11 they can travel under the child fare, which is half the adult fare. Children 5 and under can travel free but are not entitled to a guaranteed seat. The good news though is that if you buy regular fare tickets you can ride the Nozomi, which is the fastest bullet train and get you there about 30 minutes sooner.

Best of luck.
