Using JR Pass to get to Kawaguchiko

Hello,

I would be traveling from Ishikawacho to Kawaguchiko on a weekend in December. I am also holding on to a 7-day nation wide JR Pass.

I noticed that there are some trains operated by JR that will bring me to Kawaguchiko.

HOLIDAY RAPID MT.FUJI 1
LTD. EXP NARITA EXPRESS 10
OZASHIKI KOYO AND FUJISAN

I would like to ask if these trains are covered under JR pass, so I will not have to pay a single yen to take these trains to Kawaguchiko?

Cos' I have read somewhere that while these might be JR trains, if they are using the railway of other company, we might still have to pay??

Hope you could help to clarify.

Thank you.

Hi there,

You can use the Holiday Rapid Express without additional charge with the JR Pass to Kawaguchiko. Just be sure to confirm that the train is running as it is seasonal. Otherwise you could use the Non JR Fujikyu line.

The Narita Express is also included.

Ozosiki trains are also special trains that run during events or other special occasions. These trains are generally covered by the JR Pass as long as they run on JR rail. The official coverage rules can be found here. Ozoshiki trains are rather popular and I would advise reserving seats some time in advance.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hi Daniel-san,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I was referring to (http://www.jnto.go.jp/eng/pdf/transportation/Shinjuku_Kawaguchiko_schedule.pdf), and the website actually indicated that there are charges when I am traveling from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko.

Based on what we discussed above, am I right to say that I can take Holiday Rapid Express (subject to availability) and Narita Express using JR Pass, without any extra charge?

However, I think they might be using Fujukyu Line's track since they will be moving from Otsuki to Kawaguchiko. How could I check how much I have to pay? I have already unticked "private line" on hyperdia.

Thank you.

Best regards,
Weng

Hi Weng,

Sorry for the late replay, I thought that I had already posted an answer.

Thank you for the link. The re-checked the fare for Otsuki - Kawaguchiko. The strange thing is that I was not charged anything the last time when I traveled the route with a JR Pass on the Holiday express (this way two years ago).

However officially it seems that the fare between Otsuki and Kawaguchiko should be payed. So I guess it is best to expect to pay it and will cost 1,160yen/one way.

The Narita Express is covered 100%!

Hope this helps too!
Daniel
