I'm traveling to Tokyo this coming april 27- may 2, I want to go to Kyoto and nara just to see 3 sites can I do that in 1 day and how do I get there using my JR pass( Green Pass) and how do I go back to tokyo
travel to kyoto and nara from tokyo in a day
Hi there,
Looking at travel times here, you'll spend about 3 hours going from Tokyo - Kyoto, 1 hours from Kyoto to Nara and similar times going back to Tokyo. These only the times you would spend on the rail travel. This is excluding local travel to the sights you wish to travel.
It will be hard but I think it could be done with a good amount of planning. Say you leave Tokyo by 6 am. then you'd arrive there around 9. Now say you spend the next 5 hours in Kyoto and take a train to Nara at 2, the you'd arrive around 3 in Nara. Most places close there around 5 and you could visit 1-2 of the most important places, then spend a bit more time around Nara for dinner and return to Tokyo around 7. You'd be back around 23.00.
I think overall it would be better to spend at least 1 night in Kyoto or Nara.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
