Hi!
I am travelling to Japan via Osaka Kansai Airport on 2June , going to Kyoto the next day and proceed to Tokyo the same day. I will leave Tokyo via Narita on 7June.
My questions:
1. Is worth for me to buy JR 7 day pass?
2. Can JR pass be used from Kansai to Namba/Osaka City?
3. Will take JR from Kyoto to Tokyo. Do I need to make reservation? Or I can just take any available train?
4. Can I use JR to go to Disneyland?
5. Can I use JR to go to Narita?

Sorry if my questions sound silly, but in summary, is it advisable for me to buy 7 day JR pass.
Thank you:)

Hi there,

For your itinerary it is better to buy normal train tickets as you travel. The 7 day JR Pass would be a great option if you made a return Osaka - Tokyo but does not help you make savings when you travel one way.

The Pass can be used for travel in Osaka, to Disneyland and Narita Airport. Seat reservations are not required for travel from Kyoto - Tokyo but are recommended.

Hope this helps,

Hi! I am traveling to Tokyo on June 13 and plan on going to Osaka and Kyoto. I will be there for a total of 10 days. I'm not sure which pass would be beneficial for me. JR Pass or Tokaido-Sanyo Pass? Or something else altogether?

  1. Tokyo June 13 - June 18
  2. Osaka June 18 - June 20
  3. Kyoto June 20 - June 23

Do any of these passes work for the local trains as well as I explore Tokyo and Kyoto? Or should I just fly to Osaka from Tokyo?

Thank you,
Faye

Hello Faye,

A 7 day JR Pass would be a good option if you make the return from Tokyo - Kyoto as well using the JR Pass. Otherwise it is better to buy normal tickets as you travel.

The JR Pass also covers local trains in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto. Other transport such as the subway/metro is not included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
