Hi
I had a few questions regarding travelling using JR passes.
1) Is it possible to get to Mount Fuji from Tokyo using JR pass? It says that it is a destination on your map but google maps shows no results from Tokyo to Mount Fuji using public transport- not sure why? Would it be possible to go to Mount Fuji and come back to Tokyo within one day? How far is your station from Mount Fuji itself? Would we need other forms of transport to get to Mount Fuji from your station and back?
2) If it is possible to do a day trip to Mount Fuji, then my friend and I would then like to do the following:
Go from Tokyo to Kyoto, then Kyoto to Hiroshima. Would JR pass cover each of these areas within Japan? How far are your stations from the actual cities/ areas of main attractions and hotels?
Would the seven day pass costing $326.00 cover traveling to all the areas mentioned above? Would it be worth it or would you suggest regular tickets?
With regard to travelling within a city, for e.g. Tokyo, would JR Passes cover these as well?
Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

1.) Fuji is a bit tricky when it comes to the JR Pass as there are several approaches and areas to visit around Fuji. For a more detailed explanation, please see this page.

2.) Visiting Fuji does make for a great day trip from Tokyo. Stations are generally close within the cities and there are always good connections throughout every city. The JR Pass covers travel to Kyoto and Hiroshima and you can make great savings visiting these places (assuming you return to Tokyo afterwards).

The JR Pass can also be used on local travel on the JR network in Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hiroshima. On the ferry from Hiroshima to Miyajima, on the Tokyo Monorail and also sightseeing bus in Hiroshima. Other transport such as the Tokyo Metro or buses run by other companies are not included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
