Good afternoon,

I am planning a trip to Japan and I will arrive at Narita Airport and I will make Tokyo my base city. I am planning to travel to Osaka for 1 day and then go to Kyoto the following day. I will only be in Kyoto for 1 day and afterwards I will head back to Tokyo. The next day after coming back from Kyoto, I am planning to travel to Mt.Takao and then back to Tokyo for the remainder of my trip. I will depart from Narita Airport back home.

I am hoping you could please help me with figuring out if a Japan Rail Pass is worth buying for the kind of itinerary that i have.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.

Hi there,

Yes, a 7 day JR Pass would give you very good value. The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is almost the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen.

Basically once you make the return trip, any other travel you cover with the JR Pass is what you save. You will get really good savings by travelling to Kyoto again and to Takao.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
