Hi,

We will be arriving Narita on 4/7 at 4PM and leaving on 4/14 at 5PM. I will travel mostly between Tokyo -> Osaka/Kyoto -> Tokyo with 7 days JRPass. So if I activated the Pass on 4/7, it will be expired on 4/13. When I leaving from Tokyo to Narita on 4/14, what is the ticket choice for me.

I think JRPass is valid for Hikari train Shinkasen. Can I use it for the other JR bullet trains between Shin-Osaka and Kyoto?

We will travel in a group of 8 people. Is it a good chance we can all seat together in the car during rush hour? Some may carry large size of luggage.

Thank you

Hi there!

You are correct about the usage dates. What you could do is upon arrival buy a 1,500yen Narita Express ticket and start using your JR Pass the next day. This way you cover all of your travel train from Tokyo - Kyoto - Osaka and back to Narita Airport. The JR Pass covers the Shinkansen between Tokyo - Kyoto and Shin-Osaka.

I would recommend making seat reservations in advance when you travel together with 8, this way you are sure of seating together.

I hope this helps!

Thank you for the information.

My further question is when and where to make reservation in such rush timeframe. We won't be able to make reservation before arriving Narita. airport. If we make seat reservation at the terminal for Hikari Tokyo to Osaka, but missed the train, how we are going to end up with?

The JR Staff will reserve the complete route for you once you make the reservations at Narita Airport. Generally there's about 20min of transfer time at Tokyo station from the Narita Express to the Shinkansen and it is something that can be done in less than 5min.

I've missed a couple of trains myself but it never is a problem. The JR Staff will just reserve seats for you on the next train, or you can take a non-reserved seat. Trains always have reserved and non reserved seats, if you want to use a non reserved seat just line up on the platform before departure.
