Hi, we are planning a trip to Japan. We fly into Tokyo on the 18th April for 10 days. We will be spending a few days exploring Tokyo then heading down to Kyoto with a few stops along the way then back to Tokyo to fly back to Singapore. What travel pass would you recommend for us? We have been advised to use the Japan Rail Pass but are not sure if this the best way for us to travel?

Hi there,

I think looking at a 7 day JR Pass would be the best option. Making a return Tokyo - Kyoto is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the Shinkansen bullet trains. Now you get 7 days of unlimited travel for nearly the same price.

The JR Pass allows you to make any stop you like on the way and is very flexible.

For instance you could stop at Hakone to view Fuji, Nagoya, Shizuoka or even travel further and visit Himeji and Hiroshima, without any additional cost.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
