Hi! Just like to do price check if purchasing a 7day JR Pass is more feasible and more convenient than taking one-way transportation via single ticket journey or local buses.

Day 1-3 Around Tokyo (staying in Shinjuku)
Day 4 Tokyo-Nikko-Tokyo
(Alternative is to take rapid train from Asakusa but some change train lines from Shinjuku and vice versa) Day 5 Tokyo-Nagoya (Shinkansen)
Day 6 So here we're still debating if we'll head to Takayama or Kanazawa
Nagoya-Takayama or Nagoya-Kanazawa
Day 7 Takayama-Shirakawago-Kanazawa or Kanazawa-Shirwakawago-Takayama
Day 8 Kanazawa-Nagoya or Takayama-Nagoya

Grateful for your inputs!

Hi there,

I checked your plan to see if a JR Pass would be helpful.

Here are normal ticket prices to see if a JR Pass would be of use.

Tokyo - Nagoya ¥ 10,880
Nagoya - Kanazawa ¥ 8,020
Takayama - Nagoya ¥ 6,030

For a total of ¥ 24,930 add in local travel in Tokyo and Nikko and you'll certainly make savings over normal tickets. As you know there's alternative travel from Asakusa and you'd probably break around even if you choose that option + normal tickets. However this does greatly increase travel time between Tokyo and Nikko. Therefor I think the JR Pass offers the better option, as it also adds the convenience of having just one ticket for all your travels.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
