Hi,

I have the following dates of travel and schedule, could you help advice whether I should go for the 7 day JR pass.

Day 1 Arrive at Narita & Stay in Tokyo for 4 days

Day 5 Travel to Hakone

Day 6 Travel to Kyoto

Day 8 Travel back to Narita Airport

Questions

  1. Will the JR pass work out cheaper for this?
  2. Hakone I have to buy the Hakone free pass as well to travel within Hakone. So with the JR pass is that a good option or should I not buy the JR pass?
  3. Since I have to travel back to Narita airport from Kyoto - So the Shinkansen and Narita express will be both covered in JR pass?

Hi there,

1.) Yes, I recommend using a 7 day JR Pass. The cost of a 7 day JR Pass is about the same as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto. Any additional travel you do with it is basically where you can make savings. Even adding a one way Narita - Tokyo using the Narita Express will help you make savings.

2.) A Hakone Free Pass can be a great companion to the JR Pass if you plan on exploring the Hakone region.

3.) Yes, both are included.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
