Hi Daniel,

Here is what we planed for our trip:

Dec 1st, arrive at Haneda airport;
Day 2nd to 5th , explore Tokyo;
Dec 6th, from Tokyo to Kyoto;
Dec 7th to 11th explore Kyoto, one day trip to Kobe, Osaka or Nara.
Dec 12th, back to Tokyo;
Dec 13th to 14th stay around the city centre of Tokyo;
Dec 15th leave at Haneda airport.

We're 2 adults and 2 children, 5 and 7.

Questions:

  1. Does the younger child who's 5 years need a pass?

  2. Is 7 day pass good enough for our trip?

  3. If so, can we active the pass when we go to Kyoto? Where we can active it?

Thanks in advance,

Karen

Hi Karen Chen,

1.) Childeren below the age can travel for free. There are some rules and regulations for this, you can find the details here.

2.) Yes, a 7 day JR Pass would work very well for this trip. The price of the JR Pass is about the same price as a normal return ticket Tokyo - Kyoto using the bullet train. From there any additional travel you do is basically free.

3.) The JR Pass can be activated at major stations within Tokyo and elsewhere in Japan. For a complete list see this page.

Hope this helps,
Daniel
