Tokyo-Kyoto seats shortage? Risk to miss the train?

Hi all,

I'll visit Japan from the 24th april to 2nd of may, I want to buy JR Railpass.
The problem is the following one.

I'll arrive at Haneda airport on the 24th of April at 11 PM and the JR Ticketsoffice will be closed at Haneda at that time.

I'll leave tokyo the next day with a train to Kyoto at 9.40 AM. SO I'll exchange my pass witth the voucher at 9 AM and I have to book the 9.40 am train? Given that this is the only moment in which i can book is there the risk to have the train completely full i don't have to worry abou it?

Thanks in advance.

Hello there,

I don't expect any trouble here. Shinkansen seats rarely sell out and there are plenty of seats.

It's only during busy periods as Golden Week and New Year that it is advisable to purchase tickets well in advance.

Also see our blog post on how to make seat reservations.

(In other words, don't worry about it)

Hope this helps,
Daniel
