Dear JR Pass expert,

Hello, I will go to Japan next November for 7 Days trip. Since I will travel a lot inside Japan so I will buy JR Pass maybe Green Pass one. If my route is Tokyo (Kanagawa, Asakusa, Yokohama, Kawaguchi) - Osaka - Kyoto - and back to Tokyo again, I think buy JR Pass is the right choice right? If I buy the Green Pass, is the green car have space for my bag and luggage?

And I understand that I have to make a reservation before using the green cars. But I want to ask about making the reservation. I must make reservation online or on the day when I will using the green car at the station?

Please help me. Thanks you in advance! :)

Hi there,

Yes, I recommend using a 7 day JR Pass if you can make the return to Tokyo within 7 days. While not required, travelling Green Class is certainly nice. There is place for your luggage in the overhead compartments and at the end of each train car.

For seat reservations, these have to be made in advance for Green Class. This can be done at any time, in person, at any JR station. You could do so up to minutes before departure. Generally this is fine but it is recommended to reserve a couple of days in advance on national holidays.

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello Daniel-san,

Greetings from Indonesia. Thank you very much for you detail explanation. Is there any chance to make a reservation online? Or only at JR Station?

Thank you

Hi there,

Reservations can be made in person at any JR station.

There is no way to do so online, unless you have a good understanding of Japanese.

Generally seats don't sell out, so don't worry about not having a seat :)

Hope this helps,
Daniel

Hello again,

Okay then, I prefer do it at JR Station since I'm not good in Japanese. :)

I See, so if I want to go on Nov 19-27 I think its not national holidays right? So the seats are not full booked and I can made it on the day I use the train?

Thanks in advance

Hello Daniel-san,

Thanks a lot for your information. If my route is Tokyo (Kanagawa, Asakusa, Yokohama, Kawaguchi) - Osaka - Kyoto - and back to Tokyo again, is it worth to buy the Green Pass or what I get is just the same with Ordinary Pass? Because I read about unavailability green car on some train.

Thank you

Hi again,

For this route I think you will be fine with an Ordinary JR Pass. The only part where a Green Pass would be nice is for travel to Kyoto and back to Tokyo.

Local trains within Tokyo and such as travel to Kawaguchiko is mostly done on local trains, these don't have Green Seats.
