Hi Daniel,

Can you please help me find the best itinerary using Japan Rail Pass if I travel from Tokyo to KinosakiOnsen but would like to drop by and view/take photos of Mt. Fuji along the way?

Hi Elsie,

Of course! Getting to Gotemba:

First travel to Tokyo Station to board the Shinkansen to Mishima (travel time 44min) - at Mishima transfer to the local JR lines and take the JR Tokkaido line to Nuzuma (travel time 6min). At Nuzuma take the JR Gotemba line to Gotemba (34min travel time). Here is an example route for you.

From Gotemba - Kinosaki onsen:
It is still quite a ride to Kinosaki, return to Mishima station the same way that you traveled from there to Gotemba. From Mishima you can take the train Shinkansen to Kyoto station from where you can take a limited express train to Kinosaki Onsen.

The local trains can vary a little depending on what time of day you travel - just tell the JR Staff that you wish to travel to Gotemba - and they will find the best route for you. Here is an example in Hyperdia.

Let me know what you think!
Daniel

Thanks Daniel. I'm getting more excited with my itinerary.
Sorry I have one more question. Can we use the JR pass for a night trip from Tokyo to Gotemba or Hakone so we'll have more time sightseeing the following day? From there we'll proceed as you said to Kyoto.

Hi again,

You want to stay the night in Hakone or Gotemba? This is certainly possible.
Hakone is by far the better option if you plan a night's stay. There are a couple of beautiful Ryokan in the area which makes your stay unforgettable.

Sorry, I mean night travel that can be covered by the JR pass. We leave Tokyo late at night and arrive our destination (Gotemba or Hakone) in the morning.
Thanks Daniel for your patience in replying to all sorts of questions.

Hi again,

Sorry for the late follow-up I had some internet issues. Hakone and Gotemba are only 1-2 hours travel away from Tokyo, so there's no night train available.
